SpokenWise helps you practise English pronunciation. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. In short: we keep what's needed to score your practice and show your progress, we don't sell anything, and there are no ads or trackers.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and profile picture, handled by our sign-in provider, Clerk.
- Your practice results: the sentences you practise, the time of each try, and the scores (overall, intonation, accuracy and per-word scores).
- Settings: your chosen voice and speed, and sentences you removed from suggestions.
- Usage counts: how many seconds of audio were scored and how many characters were read aloud, plus your time zone and approximate country (worked out from your internet connection), so we can set daily limits, count your days correctly and see where our learners are.
Your voice recordings
When you record, your audio is sent directly from your browser to Microsoft Azure's speech service to be scored. We don't store your recordings. The copy you can replay with "My take" stays in your browser and is gone when you leave the page. Microsoft processes it only to return your scores, under its own privacy terms.
Who processes your data
- Clerk: sign-in and account management.
- Microsoft Azure: speech scoring and the model voice.
- Cloudflare: hosting and the database that stores your results.
Fonts load from Google Fonts and the speech library from jsDelivr, so those services see your IP address when the page loads.
We share your data with no one else, and we never sell it.
Cookies and storage
We use only what's needed to keep you signed in (set by Clerk) and to remember a few things on your device, such as your microphone and where you were in a text. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.
Your choices
- Download all your results at any time from Progress → Download all results.
- Change or delete your account from Manage account in the menu.
- To have all your practice data deleted, email us from your account's address and we'll do it within 30 days.
Children
SpokenWise isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. For important changes, we'll let you know in the app.
